Bittorrent and how we learned to love the bomb
Tuesday, March 14th, 2006Its really sad that almost all media talk about bittorent is focusing on pirating movies and the likes, and not about what we could do and should do with this great way of P2P’ing. OK some articles does get under the skin, but still keeps the focus on pirating.
Maybe im not very good at googling, but so far I havnt been able to find a site that hosts torrent files for freeware and CC licensed software. That I simply cant understand. Bittorrent is a gift from heaven, that should be used to spread free software and artistic works. Why? well it doesnt get much more democratic than sharing your bandwidth in return for some good and free software. And we all know that bandwidth cost skyrocket when you host large files for free download.
Around the web so called web 2.0 sites pop up, with nice rounded fonts in their design and icky fresh colours. Not a single one of them have come up with the idea that torrents, mixed up with a little AJAX commenting scripts, and of course the standard beta developer blog. Would not only help the creative commons movement, but also most likely make you a very rich person, as google or yahoo would buy your company in no time, when they’ll discover what they can earn on advertising on such a site.
